PROJECT DESCRIPTION Seismically upgrade the Universities existing Central Utilities Plant (CUP) which is made up of nine (9) different building segments that were built at different times and are not all connected. Segment one (1) is the original building built in 1963. Segment two (2) is an addition built in 1967 without a seismic separation. Segment six (6) is a small extension of segment one (1) built in 1985 and segment eight (8) was built in 1991. This project includes seismic retrofit of Segments one (1), two (2), six (6), and eight (8) consisting of: · Strengthen existing steel braced frame connections, adding welding at gusset plates and/or additional plates and bolts. · New steel buckling restrained braced frames (BRB’s), adding new high ductility braces to improve the lateral system seismic behavior.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Engineering Building Unit II (EBU II), located in the Muir College Quad of UCSD’s main campus, is primarily a Laboratory/Research mid-rise facility comprised of 5 floors and a basement. The building is separated by 3 wings (2 laboratories & 1 office), which creates an open quad in the center. Supply air, at each wing, is generated by custom Air Handler Units (AHUs) and multiple fan coils throughout. Based on a recent evaluation of the supply air system multiple pieces of equipment have surpassed their useful life and in recent years have begun to fail impacting research within the facility. The primary objective of the project is to replace seven (7) pieces of HVAC equipment that are original to the building’s current lifespan (29 years)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Upgrade the exsisting HVAC systems of the originally constructed portion of Geisel Library by replacement/refurbishment of the existing air handling units and other mechanical infrastructure. This will primarily be accomplished though conversion of the existing dual duct design by addition of a heating hot water loop and VAV’s with heating coils. This project also includes minor structural/seismic retrofit consisting of new concrete wall openings and fiber reinforced polymers (FRP).
