Project Summary

This project is a public works project, and broadly consists of the relocation of the Children’s Center and the Swetman Child Development Lab to a purpose-built facility at the Trinity Annex site, located at 1350 C Street, Arcata, California. The Trinity Annex site was acquired by the University in 2018, and is the southernmost building of the campus proper. The existing building was occupied by the Trinity Hospital between 1944 and 1972. The University would like to acknowledge the history of the facility, and plans to continue to use the name ‘Trinity’. The word ‘Annex’ will be removed from the property henceforth, thus incorporating the property into the campus boundaries. The project will relocate two University programs: The Children’s Center and the Child Development Lab. The Children’s Center currently occupies four houses on campus: Mary Warren House, Baiocchi House, Toddler Center and Jensen House located near the corner of 14th and B Streets. The Child Development Lab occupies the Swetman Building, located at the south east corner of Harpst and Rossow Streets on campus. The relocation of these two programs informs the improvements to be made at the new Trinity Children’s Center and Child Development Lab location.
